Let’s be real here. You can’t expect a team that starts Andrew “32% shooting” Harrison to win any games, especially if the best players he gets to play with is a discontented, low-effort Marc Gasol and whoever the other good player who played for the Grizzlies in this game was. Maybe JaMychal Green. That’s just a recipe for a loss, and the Grizzlies essentially guaranteed their fate by scoring 29 points in the first half.
The Grizzlies’ offensive woes are probably Harrison’s fault just as much as anybody, but it’s not like he asked for Mike Conley to get injured. Harrison’s perfectly serviceable as a backup but isn’t starter-quality at this point in his career. He can try his hardest out there, but with this roster, doing that isn’t going to lead to many wins.
If the Grizzlies were serious about winning they would package up some of their junky players for a guy like D.J. Augustin who has shown that he can be inserted into any horrible situation and do relatively well. But the Grizzlies aren’t serious about winning at this point (probably because they want to see how angry Gasol gets), and Conley comes back in a month anyway, so I’m guessing they just ride out the storm and hope that they get Luka Doncic or something.
