I think I’ve brought up this point before about a million times, but I just can’t get over the fact that this draft class makes last year’s draft class look like absolute 100% total horse plops. John Collins is averaging 11/7 on 60% in a backup role for the Hawks, and he is not even close to sniffing the ROTY of the year race. Last year he might have won it. You know those annoying “born in the wrong generation” things that get posted everywhere by misguided twenty-somethings who think they feel nostalgia for periods of American culture that they never experienced? John Collins was also born in the wrong generation, but it’s more like he was born one year late, or maybe it’s more like he shouldn’t have spent that extra year in college.
I still don’t really understand how Collins is so effective, and I probably won’t ever find out, since it’s not like I’m going to willingly subject myself to Hawks games (my ironic bromance with Luke Babbitt is not that strong). He seems too skinny to be the powerhouse inside that he is. You look at his frame and you think “there’s another John Henson, ready to get bullied in the paint by anybody with even average muscle mass”. Then he proves you wrong.
