Everyone likes to complain about the Jazz still being called the Jazz even though they’re in Utah now, but where is the outrage that the Lakers are still called the Lakers? Last time I checked, which was like an hour ago so I doubt things have changed that much, Los Angeles wasn’t the land of 10,000 lakes. That’s Minnesota. There are approximately a metric butt-ton of names for the franchise that would be more appropriate. Examples:
Los Angeles Kobes
Los Angeles Bryants
Los Angeles Commuters
Los Angeles Angels (see what I did there???????)
Los Angeles Los-ers
That’s just a few examples. I can come up with a hundred more, and if I was a paid consultant, probably a thousand more. I understand that there is a nontrivial amount of heritage and legacy behind the current name, but since when does that matter? Heritage and legacy are for those who are content to live in the past.
