Aaron Gordon’s remark of “People aren’t going to take us lightly and if they do, we’re going to blow them out.” looked good when he said it, back when the Magic were winning games and looking unstoppable on offense. Turns out, their three-point shooting was unsustainable, Gordon won’t score 40 every night and even if he does, there’s just not enough talent on the roster to win many games.
The Magic gave up an 18-point lead to lose this one to the Heat, the latest dispiriting loss in this disappointing season. Sound familiar? This happens every year with the Magic. Dwight may have been a backstabbing traitorous pansy, but he totally cursed this franchise and the curse won’t be removed until they bring him back and win a chip.
In the meantime, we have to be content with outstanding individual performances over team success (I’m always content with such things). To that effect, Gordon just scored 39 points in very impressive fashion. So many tough buckets, plus his usual threes and dunks. He missed a potential game-tying three with about 20 seconds left, but it was a good look on a shot he had been making, so it’s all good. Not everything can go in all the time. Overtime would’ve been sweet to see if he could get to 50, though. Oh damn, maybe it’s not all good. 50 points for GODdon? That would’ve been a sight to see.
