OG Anunoby: already better than Robert Archibald, the other Brit who played for the Raptors? Yes. Very clearly.
I actually was not aware of Archibald’s existence until I looked up all the Britain-born people who ever played in the NBA. He once scored 6 for the Raptors, to go with 4 assists acting basically as a point-center. Footage of the game is not available, and it’s a good thing I wasn’t making highlights then, or I would’ve gotten pretty disappointed when Archibald ended up retiring after that season without having had a good game.
True Raptors fans will remember him, I bet. In any case, Anunoby is way, WAY better than him even at this early stage in his career. He can shoot threes. He can dunk. He can pass. He plays the RIGHT WAY. Archibald played the WRONG WAY, judging by his career 28 percent shooting as a center. Anunoby’s insane assist-to-turnover ratio to start the season is edging back towards even, and his scoring has disappeared after that 20-point game, but he’s still starting, and the Raptors are still winning. It’s called intangibles, people.
