The midrange iso game of Khris “Khobe” Middleton is the kind of thing that should piss any reasonable basketball fan off. Ball movement isn’t as “in” as it was a few years ago, but it’s still the preferred style of play around the league, and here we have Khobe, getting the ball somewhere in the midrange (doesn’t matter where, as long as it’s midway between the hoop and the three-zone), doing some doopy moves, and taking a tough jumper. Mike D’Antoni would faint after just one of these possessions, much less a whole game full of them.
I must be nostalgic for some forgotten era of the NBA or another, because Middleton’s midrange game brings me unwarranted joy. I’m thinking about the rest of the league, and I don’t know if there’s a player out there whose game is like this to the extent that Middleton shows nightly. There probably is. And it’s probably really obvious. But I just can’t think of it.
