If Isaiah “The Canaanball” Canaan (get it? because he’s round and fat like a cannonball?) keeps this up, he’ll finish the season shooting over forty percent from the field, something he has never done in his career. It might seem like I’m obsessed with players shooting over 40% since I bring it up all the time, and maybe I am a little bit obsessed with that particular statistic, but you have to agree with me that players who shoot below 40% from the field are vary rarely critical components of their team. The fact that those players waste possessions by taking shots they can’t make usually offsets the other things they bring to the table.
In my defense, 40% field goal shooting isn’t the only stat I’m obsessed with. I’m also addicted to looking up per-36 scoring numbers. And win-shares per 48. That one’s probably my FOAT (favorite of all time) stat.
Anyway, Canaan doesn’t bring much to the table other than his scoring, so if he can’t score efficiently, then he’s pretty much useless. His assist percentage is the highest of his career, so he might slowly be re-creating himself as a true point guard (rather than a midget shorting guard), probably because he saw how close he was to never playing in the NBA again.
