Magic fans are always complaining that Elfrid Payton doesn’t have a jumper, but he’s shooting acceptable percentages from both midrange and beyond the arc, albeit on a limited number of attempts. There are a lot of alleged “shooters” who have worse shooting percentage than his. He might pass up open looks because he’s not overly confident in his jumpshooting ability, but his measured approach to the game is way better than, say, Bucks-era Brandon Jennings, who would chuck anything at the rim that he wanted to and be 100% confident in it every time.
Payton would probably want to shoot more jumpers if he didn’t have a sheet of hair blocking his view of the rim, but jokes about his hairstyle are getting a little bit stale so I’m not even going to make one. But I do need Magic fans to tell me one thing: are the stats lying to me? Does Payton really not have a jumper? You know I’m not going to sit through Magic games to find this one out so I need some info from the fans in the trenches.
