I consistently overestimate the interest that the average viewer has in Bobby “That Boy Ain’t Right” Portis. It’s been a long time since that punchout with Mirotic, and any extra attention he gained from that is gone. I also get the feeling that he’s sort of a relic on the Bulls, a remnant of a time long past even though it’s only his third year in the league. He’s not usually included in the evaluations of the Bulls’ young talent.
But he totally should be, because he’s averaging a bit over 12 points per game in only 20 minutes. It seems like a lot of those points in garbage time (like tonight), but points in the NBA are points in the NBA. It’s not like opposing scrubs aren’t trying to stop people from scoring.
If you watch this video closely you will notice that he gets the best of supposed star player Joel Embiid multiple times in the first half. That’s all the evidence I need: he needs to get more minutes. 20 minutes per is just not enough if you want him to become the best player he can be. True facts.
