Josh Jackson still has negative win-shares for the season, but he’s had a stretch of encouraging games which give me hope that he will at least have non-negative win-shares by the end of the season. If you ignore his 0-of-13 shooting performance two games ago (which actually resulted in the second-lowest “game score” of the entire season for any player, with only Porzingis’ 0-of-11 outing being worse), he’s scored 20, 18, 20, and 21 in his last four games. THAT’S the kind of scoring I want out of a fourth-overall pick, and now I’m getting in and I’m, frankly, pleased as punch.
Here’s a trick I learned some time ago (one could even call it a “pro tip”): if you want to think a player is good, watch a bunch of his highlight videos and then go find the box-scores of the games where he did really well. Under no circumstances should you look at his season stats or the box-scores of the games where he played poorly. With this technique you can make Josh Jackson look like an All-Star (or at least a fringe All-Star candidate).
