Since being inserted into the starting lineup, Dwight Powell has really shown why he is the superior Powell of the NBA. While Norman Powell can barely get minutes after getting gifted a huge-ass contract, Dwight provides excellent rim-running and lob-catching abilities for a reasonable price. The Mavericks aren’t exactly winning a ton of games with him starting, but they weren’t before, and I don’t see how any of their problems could be pinned on him.
There’s something on basketball-reference, some advanced metric that I don’t understand called “Offensive Rating”, and they claim that he is second in the league in that stat. I think that’s a good thing, not totally sure, but it seems really good. Only one person in the league is better at being an Offensive Rating and that person is Chris Paul, who is definitely a good player. That means Powell is also a good player.
It’s science.
