How many points per game could Will Barton average if he was given his own team? Twenty? Twenty-two? Twenty-five, even? I get the feeling that he doesn’t take as many shots as he wishes he got to take. He’s a good teammate who understands that his better teammates should take more shots, so he doesn’t hog the ball (not all the time, anyway), but if he were fully unleashed on a team where he was the go-to scorer and maybe even the go-to ballhandler as well, I think twenty PPG would be EZ PZ for him.
His bargain-basement $9 million, three-year contract ends after this season, and it’s hard to predict where he’ll end up. I don’t pay attention to what each team’s cap situation is like, or what their needs at various positions will be, but I sort of hope he ends up on a team where he can at least be the number two guy. Maybe a team where the point guard can’t really shoot. I would suggest the Jazz but they already have a guy at the shooting guard position who is younger and better. Good thing I’m not an agent, I guess.
