The Knicks did not take very long to figure out that Emmanuel Mudiay is not a good basketball player. That’s not putting it harshly enough, but I’m feeling nice tonight. It was a good idea to take a flyer on him, see if a change of scenery would mean a change in quality, but it hasn’t worked out. But then who do they start at PG?
Remember that Jarrett Jack is not an option because this season is now about developing their young talent. Even though he got a triple-double.
Frank Ntilikina is also not an option because of… things. Maybe playing him too much will make him worse, somehow? I don’t know. Whatever the case, he can’t start at PG.
This all means that Trey Burke, the former bust who is now merely a disappointment, got to start his first game since this exact day, March 25, in 2015. He scored 22 points for the Jazz that game, and then everyone unanimously and simultaneously decided he was not a starter-type talent anymore.
Burke scored 19 tonight, which is about what he’s been doing off the bench, and in about the same amount of minutes, but being a starter is more about the title of “starter” than anything else. Knicks fans have to be pleased that there is at least someone on the roster showing some life, even if they’re not especially pleased about the win.
