Somehow, a game where Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leads the charge for the Lakers just doesn’t feel as satisfying. He’s not ancient or anything, but he’s also not a homegrown talent and he’ll be gone (presumably) after the season is over. Him scoring points means nothing for the Lakers of the future.
Long story short, I’m advocating that he receive the “Deng” treatment from the Lakers. Just park him on the bench and never let him off of it. Tell him he doesn’t even need to come to games if he doesn’t want to. They can even provide a cover for the whole situation like “he DUIed so hard that he DU-died”. That would raise some questions when it came time for his next contract, but by that point the Lakers would be far from caring.
