The time is ripe for a new bromance in Utah. In the intervening months since Ricky Rubio left the desolate wastes of Minnesota, the viewing public has… screw it. Let’s cut to the chase: Ricky Rubio. Donovan Mitchell. Broing out in a bromantic manner.
Is it happening right now? I can’t tell yet, but I’m leaning towards “no”. We need more press conferences where they’re getting interviewed together and they start bantering like bros. We need more social medias. And the big thing: more chemistry on the court. The Jazz have been successful recently, but I don’t feel like there is any major chemical reaction going on between Rubio and Mitchell.
The playoffs are a prime time for budding bromance, but, again, I’m not seeing right now. Maybe once they sweep the Thunder in 5 we’ll start to see some movement. They both had good games tonight, and there were a few connections between them, but did they both stand at center court after the final buzzer sounded in a tight embrace, tears streaming down both their faces? Not that I saw.
We might have to wait for next year, but I don’t know if I can hold out that long. And that Jeremy Lin (R.I.P.)/Chandler Parsons (R.I.P.) bromance (R.I.P.) set a high standard that might be tough to match.
UPDATE: I just saw Mitchell reacting to Rubio speaking Spanish at the postgame press conference with smiles and big eyes and this bromance is OFFICIALLY ON!
