Omri Casspi 17 Points Full Highlights (1/16/2019)

Omri Casspi got cut by the Warriors basically because he didn’t want to shoot threes. I’m way over-simplifying here, because I have a narrative to push, but that was definitely part of it. He went from jacking tons of them at a 40 percent clip in Sacramento (remember that Casspi/Curry duel?) to barely shooting any with the Warriors at a 45 percent clip. Now, obviously, his release is totally messed up which means he can’t just shoot it any time he wants, but he’s still got to be shooting more than 1 per 36 minutes.

He’s increased his rate a little bit with the Grizzlies (along with his punching rate, ooooohh dissssss), but it’s still not high enough. The Grizzlies need his three-point shooting, because right now they need all the perimeter threats they can get. You wonder why they traded way too much for a very meh player in Justin Holiday? Because they were so desperate for a three-point bomber. The commentators allude to this at the end of this video, and I interpreted it as shade thrown towards Casspi for being so hesitant.

Another thing that the commentators said was that the Casspi/JaMychal Green/Joakim Noah combo was really good. Now, when you’re saying stuff like that, that’s when you know your season is in the toilet. It’s fine if those three have chemistry or whatever, but you don’t want to rely on any of them for anything. Shouldn’t, like, a Conley/Gasol/Parsons trio be the ideal trio for carrying the team?
