That one stretch of scintillating basketball Dion Waiters had a few years ago was maybe the most exciting Heat basketball that had been played since LeBron left. “Waiters Island”. I don’t even know what that phrase meant, but that’s what was going on and it was really fun. So many game-winners! Well, maybe not that many, but they stand out in my mind clearly. Was this the time of his career where he said “Men lie, women lie, buckets don’t”? I bet it was, and if it wasn’t, I bet he was still thinking it.
But his ankle injury really took the wind out of his sails, and now the Heat don’t seem very interested in recreating that excitement. He’s frustrated that it’s taken so long to come back, and Heat fans are frustrated that he still exists on the roster and will exist on the roster for many years to come. They’d better hope that his two-game stretch of good scoring will continue indefinitely. If that’s what they even want, which I’m not sure they do.
I’m not sure either. I kinda have fond memories of him scoring tons of meaningless points while in Cleveland, but at the same time I think I called him a bust a few dozen times. If I did, I apologize. He’s not a bust. He’s just fat.
