After careful consideration, I have decided that Torrey “Torrey Time” Craig is the second coming of Alonzo Gee for the Nuggets. To reinforce the biblical theme, you could even call him the second coming of Alonzo Geesus, but that’s not necessary in my view.
Alonzo Gee was a small forward who couldn’t really shoot jumpshots or do much else on offense other than dunk the air out of the ball. That’s what I’m seeing with Torrey Time right now. He has shown some offense aside from dunking, but it always looks awkward. He’s not that graceful getting to the basket and his jumper looks funny because he bends his knees together as he shoots.
I’m not aware of any special fondness that Nuggets fans have for Gee, given that he only played 52 games for them total, in two separate stints. But I’m also not aware of any particular hatred that they harbor for them either. He’s just kind of a guy who played for them and was forgotten as soon as he left. I’m pretty sure Craig’s ceiling is higher than that but not 100% sure. Right now I have his ceiling as “Corey Maggette 0.3 with more dunks and fewer muscles + Alonzo Gee 1.1 + a taller David Nwaba 1.5”, which, now that I read it again, is sort of a stupidly specific ceiling to have for a player. But it’s too late to take it back. On the internet, you can never un-say anything.
