I’m looking at the Wizards roster right now, and I’m thinking that it’s lacking a little bit in “scorers”. There’s Bradley Beal, of course, but then who else on that team is just going to come in the game and start getting buckets? They’ve been leaning on Jeff Green (gasp) and Trevor Ariza (gag) to provide some scoring punch. As the kids say, “that ain’t it chief”. Those dudes are fine (you’re gonna see just how fine when I get around to uploading the 50-point combined Greeriza highlights from tonight), but you kinda want more dynamic bucket-getters than that.
Enter Jordan McRae. This dude does nothing but get buckets. Sometimes the efficiency with which he gets the buckets is not very good, but if you put him on the court, he’s gonna try and score. I mean, what else is he gonna do out there? Not much. His utility is found solely in how willing of a shooter he is. The way I’m phrasing this makes it seem like he’s not very good, and that’s probably true. He isn’t. But since when do I care about silly things like players being “good” or not? Since never. And neither should you.
The ‘Zards fought valiantly against the Hawks in this one, but in the end, the Hawks’ torrent of scrub scoring was too much to overcome. But they got something much more valuable than a win: they got the knowledge that McRae can provide a decent fraction of the scoring potential he showed when he dropped 36 while with the Cavaliers.
