Going into this description, I was planning on criticizing Evan Fournier for his, frankly, pathetic block numbers. He only has 8 on the season, and it’s not like he’s even that short. But then I looked at his previous seasons, and aside from last year where he had 16 (!!!!!), this is actually already his best shot-blocking season. He played 2500 minutes in the 2015-16 season and only blocked TWO shots. Someone like Myles Turner blocks that many with his dong per month. So I should actually be very happy with Fournier’s rejection skills this season. Because he’s been a whole lot worse.
I can’t believe I’ve never noticed this before. Normally this kind of statistical aberration is something I’m all over. “Statistical Aberration” was even my nickname in high school. This is the kind of thing where, if it’s obvious that I’m not aware of the situation, someone like Zach Lowe needs to personally email and tell me the details.
It goes without saying that Fournier did not block any shots here against the Thunder. He did score 25 points, and he did get 5 assists (which you don’t get to see because I hate you), but not a single block. Maybe at the end of the season I’ll make a block-ilation for him just to see if any of the few that he got were even legitimate blocks. I’m guessing most of them are just the crappy strip-block anyway.
