Bobby Portis had a great first game for the Washington. 30 points with a ton of sweet buckets, in a way it was a continuation of his last game for Chicago, where he scored 33 (with a ton of sweet buckets). I think I saw a stat where he was the first player ever to have consecutive 30-burgers with different teams, but I couldn’t verify it for myself, so it might be fake news. Anyway, there was hope that we would see a new, reborn Portis with the ‘Zards who would shake off any negativity surrounding his time with the Bulls and ascend to a new level of high-quality role-player-ness.
But the sheen has worn off a little bit, now that we’re a few weeks in, and he’s basically the same player he was before he got traded, with these 26 points maybe changing that but not by much. An expected outcome, but for all the maniacal Portis fiends out there, it may be a little disappointing.
He’s come a long way, though. I remember when he was a rookie and Bulls fans were just BEGGING for him to get to play. I don’t remember the reasons for him not playing, but I do remember joining Bulls fans in my indignation that he wasn’t getting enough minutes. His 10-point debut against the Hornets a few games into that season will forever be one of my most cherished videos.
Okay, that’s a lie. But I should still re-upload that one. That’s a historical relic that needs to be preserved.
