I understand that the trade deadline has passed, but Adam Silver has personally given me his personal assurance that trades can still happen if both teams demonstrate a genuine need for the trade to happen. That’s why I think the Brooklyn Nets should trade DeMarre Carroll to the Toronto Raptors for Norman Powell and a second-round pick.
This just makes too much sense not to happen. Carroll can bolster an already strong Raptors team with his accurate shooting and his cagy defense. He’s the perfect player to step into the starting lineup when Kawhi (or his camp) inevitably decides halfway through the first round that Kawhi should rest the next few games under the guise of “load management”. For the Raptors, an emergency Kawhi backup plan is not just a luxury, it’s a requirement. And there’s no reason Raptors fans would harbor any animosity towards Carroll in any way. Carroll would be welcomed to Toronto with open arms.
Meanwhile, the Nets get somebody with a bit more scoring potential, even if that potential is very hard to see at this point. They also get a pick. Who doesn’t like draft picks? It’s like a free lottery ticket to win something cool, except the coolest thing you can reasonably expect to win in the second round is a guy who isn’t so hopeless as a rookie that you can sometimes play him in games and not feel upset while it’s happening.
As I said, Adam Silver has all but given this trade the okay. Is there some way I can trick these two GM’s into getting onto the same group chat?
