Harry Giles 16 Points/3 Blocks Full Highlights (3/17/2019)

Even after today’s dominating win against the Bulls, the Kings are an extreme long shot to make the playoffs. So extreme that the possibility isn’t really worth mentioning it anymore. It was fun while it lasted, the concept of the widely-believed-to-be-the-worst-team-in-the-league-before-the-season Kings making the ‘offs while the Lakers with LeBron “guaranteed Finals appearance” James missed out. Happily, the Lakers are still going to miss out, and even more happily, the Kings are suddenly looking like they have a future. A real future, a good future, not just the default future that all teams receive by virtue of them being located in a dimension where time moves forward instead of backward or not at all.

Harry Giles is part of that future. There were doubts coming into the season that he would ever be effective, because injuries suck and sometimes they destroy you forever. Those doubts have been erased; while he may be a turnover and foul machine (which isn’t unusual for a rookie), he’s showing enough of all the good stuff to make him a key part of the Kings’ plans. Examples of that good stuff include his passing, his defense, his jumper, his chemistry with Marvin Bagley, and his hair. Just kidding about the hair part though. I don’t know if a guy with his facial structure can get away with that immaculately arranged hairdo.

And it’s good to hear Jerry Reynolds on the commentary for this one. He deserves to get to commentate some games for a Kings season where there’s actual positivity instead of disappointment. Doug Christie is fine, which is surprising because he was NOT fine last year, but Reynolds is the voice of the Kings for me. Listen to me, getting all sentimental. Sorry.
