Boban Marjanovic’s ascent into the king of NBA “meme” players has taken a sharp upswing with the addition of a three-point shot, the “memiest” shot-type in the league for players of his type. That type being “ridiculously huge Euro”. He was already one of the most ironically (and earnestly, by some sickos) loved players in the league, but a three-ball just puts it over the top. It always felt kind of odd that he didn’t have that shot in his arsenal, because it seems like every tall Euro can shoot them, but it also made sense. Why would you want your giant who is bigger than literally everyone he faces hanging out on the three-point line? It works for someone like Brook Lopez because he can shoot from 40 feet away. Marjanovic, despite his varied offensive game, is really at his best when he’s just standing under the rim and dunking it.
Speaking of “just standing under the rim and dunking it”, Marjanovic didn’t dunk it even once in this game. This has got to be a personal best for most points scored without a dunk, because I looked at the stats and he averages one accidental dunk per game. Like, he’s not even trying to score or even have the ball, and he just accidentally dunks it. No one knows how these buckets happen, but they do. Once per game. Not this game, so we can expect two of them next game. The first will be when he grabs a defensive rebound, tries to throw a pass to the guard, but instead dunks it by mistake. The second will be where he’s trying to win a jump ball on his side of the court, but instead of tipping it to a teammate, he tips it into the rim as a dunk.
