I spent some time debating on whether or not to make this video. After all, a 15/6 statline for Tyus Jones doesn’t seem like it’s that spectacular. We all remember many times where Jones got many more assists than six. Without checking basketball-reference, it feels like Jones would average well over six assists per game if he was given starter’s minutes (just checked and I was right as always – Jones averages 7.3 assists per 36). So, on the surface, this statline is of dubious highlight-worthiness.
But you have to consider that Tyus Jones’ career high in points in seventeen. That seems ridiculously low for a guy who’s just finishing up his fourth year, three of those years with him as a real part of the Wolves’ rotation. And it is. It is ridiculously low. But a low career-high means that the points threshhold for a Jones highlight video is quite low, probably around thirteen or so.
So, in the end, the video got made, and I only regret it a little bit. I’ve been feeling for a while like I haven’t made enough Tyus Jones highlight vids this season, and now the season is winding down for the Timberpuppies, so I’ve got to make hay while the sun shines, so to speak. Hay being highlight videos and the sun shining being the Timberwolves’ remaining few games before they all go back to their respective homes and watch the playoffs while consuming large quantities of chicken wings.
