Last season, I always thought of Jacob Evans as the Klay Thompson replacement, but I didn’t literally think that he would have to replace Klay Thompson. I always thought of him as a guy who, if he developed correctly, could provide some of the shooting that Klay provides, but only provide it for maybe ten to fifteen minutes per game. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. He wasn’t actually supposed to be playing a good chunk of Klay’s minutes while Klay sits at home eating Cap’n Crunch and playing Harry Potter games on his old PS2.
That said, Evans can actually provide some of the things that Klay provided for those Warriors championship contenders that now, somehow, seem so distant in the past:
-Shooting threes. This one you can clearly see in the video. Evans can shoot threes, and not only can he shoot threes, he can make threes.
-Knowing his role. Evans isn’t out there trying to be a playmaker or ball-handler. He’s out there to fit into his role, and his role is to shoot when open. I think that’s his role, anyway.
-Looking at toasters with confusion. Remember when a fan gave Klay a toaster to sign and he looked at it all confused? Jacob Evans can do that too, as long as somebody unexpectedly gives him a toaster during an autograph session.
-Playoff experience. Klay has a lot of it. Evans has some of it.
Not only does Evans do all of those things listed above, but he hasn’t even been banned by the league for drug violations, unlike certain other Evanses we can think of. Yeah, the Warriors are gonna be just fine with Klay out.
Sob.
