The first thing that haters will notice about this game is that Rui Hachimura needed 20 shots to get his 19 points. They will look at the boxscore, point accusatorily at the offending row, and exclaim “HAH! Look at what an inefficient chucker Hachimura is! I knew he would be a bust, and I was right, because I’m always right!”. That is what they will do, I can say it with certainty, because while I was at my local fast food establishment picking up some grub, I saw a hater do exactly that while he sat at a booth and mooched off the free internet. This was a really ugly dude too. Greasy-looking, ill-fitting clothes, and he must have smelled bad because no one was sitting near him. So I already know that the haters are picking apart this performance by Hachimura even as I type these words.
Normal people, however, should see no reason to be concerned. Yes, 19 points on 20 shots is not ideal, but this is a rookie we’re talking about. A rookie playing in his second career game. He’s not going to be the paragon of efficiency with the way his shot profile looks. Midrange jimbos are part of his game, threes are not, so this is what you get. And everyone should be fine with that. Maybe if he’s doing the same stuff in a year or two we can start calling him the Japanese Wiggins.
The most important thing for him, right now, is to get buckets, and that’s what he’s doing. They aren’t the prettiest buckets, in fact most of them seem sorta awkward, but two points are two points, unless you’re talking to LeBron James. The other most important thing for him is two play winning basketball, and would you look at that, the Wizards won this game.
Message to that hater I saw hating at the fast food place: you need to take a shower and also stop being racist towards Japanese NBA players who happen to really really look like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
