De’Andre Hunter has finally had a game worthy of his draft placement. It took a while, but not as long as it could’ve taken; there are tons of players who played a year or two before finally living up to expectations. There are some that never do it at all (Anthony Bennett needs to make a comeback, god damn it, I want a redemption story that’s not frickin’ Carmelo). We hear so much about the rookies who are kicking butt that it kind of skews our perception, and we start thinking that every rookie should be kicking so much butt.
I’m really happy for him, but man, could he have picked a team that wasn’t the Bucks? I don’t care how much the Bucks are winning; I want to play the victim right now, and no one is going to stop me. It’s just TYPICAL that a player like Hunter (who, despite the hype, hasn’t been very good on offense thus far in his career) would go off on the Bucks. That’s what ALWAYS happens. Him and Cam Reddish. Don’t you feel bad for me yet? I need your sympathy. Give me your sympathy, or I will perish.
I don’t know what it was, Hunter just decided that tonight was the night he was going to make a bunch of shots while also getting fouled a lot. Sometimes that’s all it takes, putting your mind towards being aggressive and then doing it. I’m hoping that this will lead to bigger and better things for about the next week, which is when the Bucks and Hawks meet again. He can go back to sucking for that game, and then continue on his upward trajectory. Trae Young is great, but he needs some help who isn’t Jabari Parker.
