If Jaren Jackson doesn’t watch out, he’s going to be looking in a mirror in a few years and not recognize the pure three-point specialist staring back at him. Shooting threes is fun, I get that. Personally, I’d prefer dunking it, but if I had been dunking for as long as Jackson has, I’d get tired of it too.
Jackson clearly wants to pretend to be a perimeter player; he rebounds like he’s telling the coaching staff “I don’t want to do this anymore”. He does pointless dribble moves before shooting jumpers like he’s Kyrie Irving. He takes them from 500 feet out like he’s Stephen Curry. And, this year, he’s making them like he’s Stephen Curry. He’s shooting 41 percent from out there, the kind of percentage that will only empower him to take more and more from deep.
I’m getting some serious Brook Lopez vibes from him right now, except Lopez actually sucks from three this year. But the big-bootiness, the lack of rebounding, the slow-footedness, the quick trigger from deep. The only difference is that Jackson is black and Lopez is Mexican. That’s the only difference.
