We’re so far into the season now that I can probably stop worrying about Dion Waiters/James Johnson coming back and taking all of Duncan Robinson’s minutes. There was a report today that the Heat are going to try and work those two back into the fold, but I don’t really believe that. At this point, the Heat are doing so well that trying to rock the boat by inserting some crappy players into the rotation just for the fun of it doesn’t seem like something a well-run team would do. But even if they do get some minutes, Robinson has established well enough to keep getting the starting gig and plenty of minutes moving forward.
He’s pretty much the perfect player for the Heat right now, because he literally doesn’t need the ball at all to be effective. Everyone knows about the idea of “gravity” since Stephen Curry popularized the concept, and that’s what Robinson has. Defenses have to pay attention to him, even if all he’s doing is running around screens or even just standing around behind the arc pretending to not be paying attention to the play. He doesn’t steal stats from anybody. He doesn’t grab rebounds he shouldn’t be grabbing, he doesn’t make passes he shouldn’t be passing, he doesn’t touch the ball when he shouldn’t touch the ball, all he does is shoot threes and make threes.
I want him on the Bucks, and am willing to trade one (1) lightly-used Kyle Korver (who is basically the same player but with TONS of extra vet savvy that maybe the Heat could use for when Udonis Haslem passes away [which could happen any day now]) and one (1) Thon Maker. CBA sticklers might note that Maker is no longer on the Bucks and is thus not eligible to be traded by them, but I beg to differ.
