Rick Carlisle is just the latest in a string of coaches who refuses to use Boban Marjanovic to the fullest extent of his talents, or even give him a consistent role at all. Just take a look at the know-nothings that have been giving him DNP-CD’s for the past four years and tell me it doesn’t make your blood boil:
Gregg Popoverrated
Can’t Van Coach
Cock Rivers
Butt Clown
…and now SucksDick Carlisle
Despite sometimes making assurances to the contrary, none of these coaches ever could ensure that Boban would reliably get minutes. I totally get that Boban’s upper limit is probably twenty minutes per game, given how much mass he has to drag around with him when he runs, but you can easily find five or ten minutes per game in the rotation somewhere. Just move KP to PF or something. Boban has to play. The Sizable Serb needs minutes.
Remember when Boban got fifteen minutes per game in the Sixers’ first-round series against the Nets last season? I thought that would be the key to unlocking the unholy power of Boban, but his minutes dwindled in the series with Toronto until he got a DNP-CD in game seven. Coincidentally, that’s the game where Kawhi hit a game-winner because nobody was there to block his shot. If Boban had been on the court for that possession, the Raptors would have gotten a switch so that Boban was on Kawhi so that Kawhi could cook him, but then Boban would destroy him with his size and the Sixers would be the ones with the championship. Nobody can convince me that this is not how the timeline would have happened.
