The full, unabridged title of this video is “Nemanja Bjelica 22 Points/1 Game-Winner Stolen From Him by the Fact that His Teammates Can’t Play Defense (1/20/2020)”.
Nemanja Bjelica made a clutch bucket off a rebound of his own miss with two seconds left to put the Kings up by two. Bjelica is so cerebral that he purposely missed his first attempt just to take more time off the clock before getting the second one to go down. His clutchness should have been rewarded with the “1 Game-Winner” designation in the title of this video, but it was not to be: on the Heat’s inbound with two seconds left, Cory Joseph got switched onto Bam Adebayo, and then the lob was way too easy.
Maybe the Kings didn’t think that a lob was going to happen. There was enough time on the clock to run a real play and get a three-pointer, so the Kings were protecting against that possibility. Or maybe they were just frantically trying to make sure everybody was covered without really paying attention to who is covering who (that’s how I play defense in pickup games and sometimes it results in really hilarious/embarrassing mismatches where I get destroyed).
The game ended up going to overtime where the Kings would lose. And thus, Bjelica’s heroic effort to drag his team to victory was wasted, and the only thing that goes in the record books is a big red L. Not only that, but the people of Serbia were denied the chance to witness a true Serb game-winner. I guess they’ll have to comfort themselves by watching videos of that Bogdanovic game-winner against the Lakers.
