Daniel “Theis Theis Baby” Theis has been good enough for the Celtics that the usual calls for them to trade for a center at the deadline have been muted. At least, that’s my impression of things. Maybe there are crowds of Celtics fans who are tired of his low-usage efficiency and are clamoring for the acquisition of Nikola Vucevic or a similar player, but I somehow doubt it. If such crowds existed, I would seek them out so I could mock them.
The Celtics have a good thing going with their Walker/Tatum/Brown core. They don’t need to screw it up by trying to add a fourth high-scoring player. They already kind of have one in Gordon Hayward so finding a bigtime scoring center would just jam the starting lineup with too many players who want the ball. Remember how that worked last season? It didn’t. In lineups like that, everybody gets worse, and the total is less than the sum of its parts.
Besides, Kanter can come in and provide scoring as Theis’ backup. That’s like a perfect situation for the Celtics. If there is anybody in the Celtics fandom who is unhappy with this situation, they are welcome to explain my faulty reasoning to me so I can ignore it and continue holding my possibly-ill-informed opinions.
