Josh Okogie 23 Points Full Highlights (2/5/2020)

The Timberwolves recently moved a whole bunch of players in order to acquire a whole bunch of other players from, like, three other teams. IN THE SAME TRADE. Some picks went zipping around as well. I’ve totally lost track of what exactly happened, if I ever knew at all, but one thing I know for sure:

Josh Okogie has to be the new Robert Covington.

They’ve been priming him for this role for a while by giving him minutes even while Covington was still on the roster. Remember, Covington was a “3 & D” player. I know it’s been a long time since Covington donned a T-Wolves jersey, but please try to remember. Covington’s role was to play defense and to hit three-pointers. That is now Okogie’s role, and I think he’s got the defense part down pretty good, but the “hitting threes”? He’s shooting 25% on them, does that qualify “hitting” them? I mean, he hits them a quarter of the time.

Luckily, Okogie is not being asked to fill the Shabazz Napier role. Nor is he being asked to fill the Jordan Bell or Noah Vonleh roles. The Timberwolves will have to find new guys to step into those roles, either from the G-League or from trying to turn Evan Turner’s corpse into a NBA-worthy player through black magic. Actually, I bet you could tell Okogie to step into Napier’s role and run the offense for a bit. It would suck and be horrible, but remember, the Timberwolves once tried to get Zach LaVine to be a point guard. They don’t care who’s passing the ball or even that the ball gets passed. Just have a disorganized, free-for-all scheme and hope that KAT wants to stay for some reason.
