Dejounte Murray was one rebound and one assist short of finishing with a triple-double. It would’ve been good for him to get it, because that would’ve been at least one good thing to happen for the Spurs instead of the zero good things that happened for the Spurs.
Actually, even if Murray did get the trip-dub, it would’ve been nullified by the fact that the Spurs lost to the Kings by 20. When you lose to such a bad team by so many points, any good things that you managed to do actually become bad things.
Still, this is probably Murray’s best overall game this season. Normally when he does good the Spurs get the win, so I’m not going to blame him too much for this loss. He did his job, making a few nice passes and having a large amount of nice buckets. It certainly FELT like he made more than 6 in the game, that’s how good they were.
I feel like the hype for this guy has died down quite a bit, so that’s another reason he should’ve statpadded harder for the triple-double. That particular statistical accomplishment might have been devalued into near worthlessness by Russell Westbrook, but on the Spurs, such a feat is a rare occasion indeed. Perfect for re-announcing to the world that he is here and ready to contribute to a team while Popovich resents his very existence.
