OFFICIAL DTB NOTICE TO HEAT FANS: Jae Crowder wasn’t nearly this good a shooter while he was in Memphis, so don’t get your hopes up because he went 5-of-8 and 4-of-8 from three in his first two games wearing a Heat uniform. The 29% from three that he shot in 45 games for the ‘Zlies is much less likely to be a fluke than this two-game stretch shooting 56%.
It might sound like I’m just hating on Crowder here for no reason, and maybe I am. But I also want to give fair notice to Heat fans who don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of NBA statistics like I do (actually I just search everything on basketball-reference). A casual Heat fan might think that Crowder is some kind of three-point specialist stolen from a rival team for nothing, and, given what that casual fan has observed, that opinion is not too far off-base. Certainly, Crowder is currently shooting a comparable percentage to known three-point marksman Dunacn Robinson. I’m just not sure that it can be sustained. It almost definitely cannot be sustained.
OFFICIAL DTB NOTICE TO HEAT FANS #2: When Crowder’s percentages inevitably drop back down to career norms, you have to promise not to hate on Crowder too much. Hating on Crowder is my job, and if I’m too busy, I delegate that task to Marcus Morris. I generate enough hate by myself that I don’t need Heat fans to supply any extra. Thanks.
