Normally I have a policy where if a player has a bad game, they don’t get a highlight video. That seems like a totally normal policy for a highlight-maker to have, right? Well, I went against it to make this video, simply because of how hyped I am that Juan Hernangomez is getting unleashed in Minnesota. To my detriment. To my great detriment.
So much regret.
The statline makes it clear: Hernangomez kind of sucked in this one. In the absence of Karl-Anthony Towns, and really any quality bigs at all, he played 37 minutes and scored 16 (that part is fine) on 5-for-18 from the field (not fine). He technically won the battle of the Hernangomezes, outscoring Willy by 8 points but only making one more shot on way more attempts.
And not only did he only make five shots, it turns out that one of Hernangomez’s buckets was not even touched by him! Bismack Biyombo accidentally tipped a rebound into his own basket, and since Hernangomez was the only Timberwolf who was even in the vicinity at all, he got credit for the score. Kind of a fun oddity, but it only detracts from his already poor performance.
