I love that the question regarding the future of Christian Wood’s NBA career has gone from “Should the Pistons cut Christian Wood so that they can keep Joe Johnson?” to “How big of a contract is Christan Wood going to get in a free-agent marketplace that is lacking star power?” While Joe Johnson’s old body gamely prepares for another BIG3 tournament, Christian Wood is showing off the vast array of scoring ability that’s going to net him at least a thirteen-million-dollar contract this offseason.
That’s right. Thirteen mil. PER YEAR. I don’t know how many years, maybe two or three or four, but it’s gonna be at least 13M per year. I’m calling it right now. Come back to this description after some team signs him and you’ll that that I was right like I always am. Or come back after it turns out I’m wrong to find that I’ve retroactively edited this description to reflect the true amount of the contract. Either way I win and you lose.
Is it crazy to think that Christian Wood, if fully unleashed like he is here, is a better player than Andre Drummond ever was? All Drummond ever did was statpad rebounds and take crappy hook shots. Wood can do those things too, but he can do so much more, plus he does it while not having carpets of gross shoulder hair covering basically his entire upper back. If Wood was getting paid Drummond’s current contract (which is so big that I don’t want to look it up), everybody would be like “he’s kinda overpaid, but you don’t usually get this kind of production out of your power forward unless that power forward’s name is Anthony Davis, so maybe he’s not really that overpaid at all.” Again, I ask, am I crazy for thinking this? Am I drinking way too much of the Wood Kool-Aid right now?
Screw it. I’m chugging the entire pitcher of Kool-Aid and then having my mom make a whole ‘nother batch. Just for me. It’s my Kool-Aid.
