There must be something wrong with Allonzo Trier that prevents him from getting minutes even on the lowliest-of-the-lowly Knicks. He proved his mettle as an undrafted rookie last season, but his role has went from “minimal” that season to “non-existent” this season.
You would think that the Knicks would be so desperate for scoring from anywhere on the roster that they would try to give Trier a bit more burn. After all, he is known for his scoring and nothing else, so if you were looking for a player to contribute scoring (and nothing else) to your team, Trier would be the guy to call. Him or Jamal Crawford. Do residents at nursing homes even get their own phones so that you can call them? In any case, Trier is the obvious choice, because he’s the one sitting on the bench waiting to get into games but never having his number called.
Trier’s one-dimensional chucking might not be a good fit for today’s NBA, but here’s the deal: if there’s any place in the league where Trier could get a bigger role and thrive in it, it would be in New York. They just got rid of Marcus Morris (one-dimensional chucker, basically he’s a souped-up Allonzo Trier) and have a huge void of talent. Just throw him in there with the rest of his dysfunctional teammates and see if he can somehow be less dysfunctional than them.
