Zion Williamson is an absolute beast right now, and his highlight videos are also beasts both when it comes to view counts and when it comes to pure entertainment. However, the entertainment value of these videos is tanked hard every time the annoying Pelicans color commentator opens his mouth. I’m not even going to dignify him by looking up his name. I’ve heard it before but I didn’t bother remembering it. He does not deserve notoriety, however negative, for the constant stream of commentarial spewage that spews from his spew-mouth.
He gets excited for everything to the point that any listener gets exhausted well before this guy gets done talking. His voice is not soothing or pleasant at all. He constantly talks over Joel Meyers when Meyers is trying to describe the play in that iconic voice of his. The content of his commentary is banal, repetitive, and so disgustingly homerific that he’s giving the Boston booth guys a run for their money.
It’s getting to the point where I’m seriously thinking about using the opposing team’s commentators for these Williamson videos. This has many upsides: annoying guy’s annoying voice is gone, the opposing commentators will probably gush over Williamson just as much as the home guys do, and I don’t have to feel bad for Joel Meyers becoming a second-class citizen in terms of airtime on the broadcast.
