The Celtics have SO MANY intriguing young players on their roster. It’s almost unfair. Heck, let’s forget about the almost part. It IS unfair. There are teams all around the league who would gladly give minutes to any one of these players, but the Celtics are hogging them all, marginalizing them in the process. Let’s just do a quick rundown:
Javonte Green: INTRIGUING
Robert Williams III: INTRIGUING
Vincent Poirier: INTRIGUING
Carsen Edwards: no
Romeo Langford: INTRIGUING
Brad Wanamaker: not actually young
Tacko Fall: INTRIGUING
Javonte Green: STILL INTRIGUING
Semi Ojeleye: GIANNIS STOPPER
I probably even forgot a name or two on that list, but even so, that is a long list of seriously intriguing players. And the Celtics don’t give minutes to any of them. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are too busy being young (I’ll give them that) but not intriguing (everyone already knows how good they are) and taking all the minutes/touches/glory.
Javonte Green needs some of those things. Some of those minutes and touches and glory. I really don’t care if it costs the Celtics a few wins, and honestly, Celtics fans shouldn’t care either. What’s the point this season? To maybe sneak in to the ECF and get swept by the Raptors? This was always going to be a transitional season for them, but they botched that transition by not de-emphasizing Tatum and re-remphasizing Green.
This was the last game of the “regular” season for the Celtics, and luckily for me, Boston’s lineup resembled a traditional season finale, just in August instead of April. All the above players got their chances, most of them did very little with them, but Green, he showed out. 23 points is such a career high that I don’t even need to acknowledge it, really. Some of those threes that he hit are totally not sustainable, and he’s totally not going to make any sort of impact in the ‘offs, but I’m still hyped.
