I bet the Sixers wish they had Trey Burke right about now. While he’s probably not the guy you want starting at the point guard position full-time, he could complement their ragtag crew of ball-handlers who are being forced to do more with Ben Simmons out. Here’s a list of things that we know Burke provides on a nightly basis:
-Scoring
-Sometimes passing
-Looking enough like Allen Iverson that people compare him to Allen Iverson even though he’s more like T.J. Ford
-Having a pedigree of stepping up in big games (I assume he did this in college, but I’m too apathetic to look it up)
Those are all things the 76ers would want right now. Especially the throwback to AI. But they waived him, I think to make space for Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson, and according the rules of the CBA, a player waived by a team can’t just keep playing for that team even if that team really wants them to. Instead, the Mavericks picked him up at the start of The Bubb, and it turns out that he’s a nice backup PG to have behind Luka Doncic.
Allow me to prepare the tear-harvesting machinery for use on Sixers fans. Clippers fans are next in line.
