So it looks like Coby White is the full-time starting point guard in Chicago now. That’s cool. I’m trying to remember who he replaced, and I just can’t remember at all. The previous iteration of the Bulls stopped playing last March and were never allowed to resume, so my memory of them is even more faint than most of last year’s teams. Was Kris Dunn on that team? Probably. Is Kris Dunn dead now? As far as I know, the answer is 75% probably yes. Was Ryan Arcidiacono on that team? Yes, because he’s on this year’s Bulls as well. In fact, Ryan Arcidiacono is the only Bulls point guard I can recall since Derrick Rose.

My own inability to keep all this straight in my head is irrelevant. The relevant thing now is that Coby White, who I always thought was more of a shooting guard, is being GIVEN the REINS in Chicago, and he’s RESPONDING with an 18/5/5 statline on improved shooting numbers. Those are like rookie Tyreke Evans numbers, and, before you get upset at my comparison, thinking I’m making fun of White, remember that rookie Tyreke was one of the better rookies in recent memory with a stat-stuffed 20/5/5 line. That’s a good comparison. I would never denigrate a player coming off a career high by comparing them to a subpar player, like, say, Ian Clark. Coby White is at least 5% better than prime Ian Clark, at least.

With White looking like he’s breaking out a bit, do him and Zach LaVine enter the conversation for best backcourt duos in the league? Until they have anything resembling regular season success, probably not, but they’re definitely a duo to keep an eye on. The world needs more chucktastic high-scoring guard duos, as long as they’re not on the Bucks (I hate you Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings, you’re okay, and I really hate you John Hammond).
