I know I’ve said it repeatedly (tbh every NBA-related thought I’ve ever had has been said repeatedly just because of how many descriptions I’ve had to type over the years), but I really, REALLY don’t care about the Dunk Contest. I don’t watch it, I don’t watch replays of the dunks, I don’t remember who the winner is for more than five seconds after finding out, the Dunk Contest might as well not exist for me.

Who was the winner last year? I don’t know. I know Pat Connaughton was there but did not win. Was Hamidou Diallo the winner, or was that some previous year where he won (I know he won at least one because Clyde Frazier mentioned it in this broadcast)? There might be some potential material for a description if I could bring to mind any of Diallo’s contest-winning dunks, but such memories simply do not exist for me. At all.

In-game dunks are just SO much better. Who cares about what someone can do when there’s no one defending and they have a million tries to actually put the ball in the basket? Apparently a lot of people do care about such things, but for DownToBuck, nothing gets me tumesced quicker than a player flying high to smush it forcefully over the top of a fully-exerted defender. Maximum tumescence.

Diallo has had his share of nice live-action dunks (I believe he finished near the top 10 of my top 100 dunks vid from last season), so I propose that we forget entirely about whatever it was that he did in the dunk contest and start petitioning him to dunk it in-game more often. He had a nice alley-oop at the end of this one, but I think it would’ve been even in nicer if Mitchell Robinson had inserted himself right into the middle of it, only to receive a faceful of taint followed quickly by a faceful of Spalding.
