In the first clip of this vid, the Clippers announer (can’t be bothered to learn his name, sorry, if it’s not Ralph Lawler IDGAF a frick) teasingly says “We’ll have an interesting stat on Doug McDermott a little bit later”. Unfortunately, I was too lazy to go through the rest of the game to find out where they said what that interesting stat was, so you don’t get to know. I don’t get to know. No one except people who were actually watching this broadcast get to know, but since most of them were Clippers fans who don’t especially care about any McDermott stats, interesting or otherwise, the knowledge may be lost forever.

I can speculate, though, and as my gram-grams always said, “Speculation is just facts sprinkled with a little optimism”. Looking back on it, that doesn’t really make sense, but she was a wise woman. And she made the best gingersnaps.

I’m guessing that the interesting stat about McDermott had something to do with his total lack of blocks and steals. He’s definitely one of the more unusual anomalies in those categories, since pretty much any NBA player with arms can get steals at a way higher rate than him, and the only people with his similar pathetic block totals are sub-six-foot midgets. This year, in over 300 minutes played, he has a grand total of 3 steals and… 0 blocks.

It’s also possible that the interesting stat about McDermott was related to his off-ball movement, which is elite (yeah, I went there, just watch this video to find out, Nicolas Batum had NO CHANCE), but stats about off-ball movement are harder to come by, so I can’t say as much about that. If you want to know more, go watch the three-ilation I made for him last year. It’s like this video, but longer.

The third possibility for the interesting stat about McDermott might be how he and Domantas Sabonis have pretty much the best big white dude chemistry in the league. You could even remove some of those qualifiers and just say that they have some of the best dude chemistry in the league, and I don’t think you’d even be that wrong.
