Wayne Ellington 24 Points Full Highlights (1/18/2021)

OFFICIAL DTB REMINDER: Wayne “Beef W” Ellington holds the record for most three-pointers in a season off the bench, having made 227 such shots for the Miami Heat in the 2017-18 season. And he’s been riding that accomplishment to contracts ever since.

Knicks fans thought they were getting that version of Ellington when he signed with their team last season for a sweet eight million smackeroos (the most that Ellington had ever been paid in a single season), but who they actually signed was some lesser version of Ellington that could only brick threes and amass DNP’s. I thought that disastrous season might spell the end for the guy who had, over the course of his career, received on the order of thirty or so DTB highlight videos. I was in mourning, folks. I mourned by watching Hell’s Kitchen episodes on some janky Russian site in 240p and taking a swig whenever one of the chefs had to make Beef Wellington. A swig of Mountain Dew.

But the Pistons rescued Ellington off the scrap pile during this season’s shortened offseason, remembering how well he had played for them at the end of the 2018-19 season (coincidentally, also having rescued him from the pile of unsigned rejects after the Suns waived him). All that mourning was for nought, I thought. The Mountain Dew of mourning had been consumed, but it couldn’t be unconsumed. However, the roller coaster of emotions continued as Ellington started the season off with a bunch of DNP’s. Mourning was back on the menu, and this time it manifested itself by me making a little gravestone for Ellington out of construction paper and putting it in the little “scrub cemetery” that I have on my desk.

I don’t even know what to think anymore because Ellington is back in the rotation now. His career’s not over yet, I think? I hope this is isn’t his last DTB highlight video. It was just a few years ago that he was the best bench shooter in the entire dang NBA! If this is the final video, though, I gotta thank Ellington for all the good times, and also for all the times that he played like garbage and enraged entire fanbases with his badness. Those were good times too, for somebody like me who revels in the pain of opposing fanbases.
