In the NBA Bubble (which I lovingly dubbed “The Bubb” but nobody else picked up on it), Grayson Allen put together the best stretch of play in his career up to that point, scoring in double-digits in six straight games. Maybe the lack of fans (and the attendant harassment that comes along with being a generally-disliked player) let him get into his rhythm more freely, or maybe the lack of outside distractions allowed him to attain a zen-like level of focus which resulted in improved three-point shooting.
After a slow start to the season, Allen is getting back into his groove. He missed a couple of games at the beginning of the month for reasons unknown (maybe he tripped down the stairs LOLMAO [lots of laughs made amusingly often]), but he’s scored in double digits 7 of his last 9, and you can throw a couple twenty-burgers in there as well. The success created in The Bubb is now being replicated outside of it, and Allen is an important component of a deep Grizzlies team that is eyeing a low playoff seed (or low lottery chances, depending on how the playoff chase works out for them).
This dude is never going to shed the reputation of being a dirty player, so the best case scenario for him is to develop into a competent, reliable shooting guard. That way, he’ll still have that negative reputation following him around everywhere, but haters will be forced to acknowledge that his usefulness on the court extends beyond just trying to injure the opposing team’s best player. His usefulness also includes hitting threes and looking exactly like that middle school classmate you had who bullied you by knocking your notebooks off your desk when he walked by.
