Daniel Theis just had a better game than Lauri Markkanen has had in the entire month of April. His 23 points and 5 assists is clearly better than Markkanen’s, uh, 18 points in 18 minutes back on April 8. Does that seem really wrong to anybody else? It’s like we’re living in some bizarro world where Theis is the one starting games and putting up big numbers, while Markkanen begs for scraps off the bench. Don’t get me wrong, Theis is good, but his game doesn’t scream “offensive centerpiece”. Meanwhile, Markkanen was definitely supposed to be the offensive centerpiece, even though those plans were put on hold when the Bulls traded for Vucevic.

The Bulls now have a trio of foreign big men representing Germany, Finland, and Montenegro (you could actually make it a foursome by including Cristiano “Crappy Brazilian Shaq” Felicio, but he barely plays). I don’t know if there’s any strife between them, but if there is any strife, and if that strife manifests itself into locker room brawls, those brawls are probably the most entertaining thing ever. I’m imagining lots of swear words and insults being thrown around in various languages, plus big meaty punches being delivered directly to people’s faces. Markkanen looks a bit skinny, but ever since he had that off-season where he roided hard and added like thirty pounds of muscle, I bet he could hold his own against the naturally beefier Theis and Vucevic.

On second thought, Theis is in a contract year, so it would probably be better for him to be a friendly and reliable teammate who participates in no locker room brawls even if everybody else is throwing furniture at each other and screaming. He needs to protect his reputation and stay in coach’s good graces so that he can continue to have monster statistical games and get the bag. Maybe he should ask Cristiano Felicio for tips on how to get the bag.
