The prevailing opinion of Jahlil Okafor has shifted rapidly from “he’s not that good” to “he’s probably the worst player in the league right now look at these on-off stats that I found on some crappy blog because I can only parrot other people’s knowledge”. I’ve seen the stats, and yeah, they’re not that good (putting it mildly). But who cares?
He sucks on defense, which doesn’t matter to me, since I don’t care a whit about defense.
He sucks on offense because of his ball-dominant style and unwillingness to pass. Good for himself, I guess, but detrimental to the team as a whole. Again, no problem from my point of view, since all I want from an NBA player is balls going in holes. That’s it. I don’t care about the 76ers winning games or playing enjoyable basketball. I want balls in holes, and Jahlil puts his balls in opposing holes in a very aesthetically pleasing manner.
Joel Embiid’s arrival really hurt this dude in terms of public favor. Embiid, for being the beast that he is as a rookie, still has flaws aplenty though, so I’ll just be sitting here waiting until the tide turns against him as well. And it will. It does to every hyped player. All the corny twitter antics and “The Process” references won’t be able to save him then.
