Kelly Oubre is being brought along slowly in the NBA. That’s probably a good thing, given how often we see rookies/young players crash and burn when given too much responsibility too early. He’s the backup small forward by default in Washington despite looking a little skinny for the position, probably because the Wizards have about ten low-quality backup shooting guards that are all fighting each other for minutes. Oubre has to engage in no such fights. He gets fifteen minutes a game just for being there and having a uniform.
Like Otto Porter before him, eventually people are going to want to see actual production out of Oubre. Nobody’s calling him a bust because he wasn’t a high lottery pick, but there’s probably some people out there who were enamored with his pre-NBA career who are pretty disappointed right now. Either disappointed in Oubre not taking full advantage of his current opportunities or disappointed in the Wizards’ coaching staff for not gifting Oubre thirty minutes per game on a silver platter.
There’s probably also a lot of chicks who want him to get more minutes so that he spends more time on the screen. To punish them for their vanity I propose that tubby Marcus Thornton get all those minutes so they have to look at him instead.
